What Makes a Landing Page Convert? 9 Things to Check

By the Nysia team 路 October 25, 2026

A landing page is the page someone arrives on after clicking a search result, an email or a link. Its job is simple: get them to take one action, like calling, booking or filling in a form. When a page gets plenty of visits but very few enquiries, it's usually where things fall apart.

Here are nine things we check first.

1. It matches the promise

If your Google listing says "Same-day AC repair in Houston" and the page talks about "Full home comfort solutions", people feel lost and leave. The headline should repeat the promise that made them click, in almost the same words.

2. One page, one goal

Your homepage tries to do ten things. A landing page should do one. Remove the full menu, the blog links and anything else that gives people a reason to wander off. Every part of the page should lead to the same action.

3. The action is obvious

Within a few seconds, a visitor should know what you want them to do. Use a clear button with a specific label, like "Book your free estimate" rather than "Submit", and repeat it further down the page for people who scroll.

4. It loads fast on a phone

Most visits come from phones. If the page takes too long to appear, a lot of people will hit back before they see it. Compress images, avoid heavy videos at the top, and test the page on your own phone using mobile data.

5. The form is short

Every extra field is another reason to give up. For most services, a name, a phone number or email, and one question about what they need is enough. You can ask for the details later, on the call.

6. It shows proof

People want to know others trusted you and were happy. Real reviews, star ratings, before-and-after photos, logos of clients you've worked with and short case studies all help. Put some of this near the top, not hidden at the bottom.

7. It answers the big questions

What does it cost? How long does it take? Do you cover my area? What happens after I get in touch? If people have to call just to find out basic information, many won't. A short FAQ section handles most of these.

8. It gives a reason to act now

A genuine reason to act today helps: limited appointment slots this week, a seasonal offer, or simply a free estimate. Keep it honest. Fake countdown timers and made-up scarcity damage trust fast.

9. Every enquiry is tracked

If you can't see which pages and searches led to calls and forms, you can't improve anything. Set up tracking for form submissions and calls from the page, so you know what actually brings in business.

Test, don't guess

Even experienced marketers can't always predict which headline or offer will work best. Change one thing at a time, like the headline or the button text, give it enough visitors to judge, and keep the winner.
